KAF RO Server

Been thinking of starting up a RO Server but as everyone knows it no fun inless you have people playing it. So was woundering if there there be any user base from KAF that would want to play on a Private Server for KAF members only.

Use to play this when it was in Open Beta and for awhile when it went P2P its not a bad game low PC Req so just about anyone should be able to play it.

Little How To so you can join us and play.

Start off with these files here.

kRO Client (50megs x25 Files)
SAK kRO Client (50megs x 21 Files)
Updated kafRO.rar 3-31-08. (Max Chars uped to 9) and Client.xml has been fixed.
kafRO + Translation Files (10Megs x 1 File)

Once you installed kRO install SAK RO. After you get them both installed unzip the kafRO useing WinRar to a folder and then move it to your kRO folder (Defult should be c:/program files/gravity/RO) Lease it was for me.. There is 1 file and 1 folder in the kafRO.rar file. Move them both to the RO dir it will ask if you want to over right sakexe.exe say yes.

Once done should be done. Start up the game useing sakexe.exe that you find in the RO folder.

On the login screen type in your username you would like to have. followed by _F or _M for male or female chars. Then what ever password you want. Once that is done the next time you log in just use the username that you chose without the _F or _M.

Example: First Time Login
login = ChosenOne_M
pass = tempnoway

Would make my Chars Male. Then next time I login you would just use.

Example: Returning Vist
login =ChosenOne
pass = tempnoway

Any questions plz just post them here I guess for now.. Maybe if this takes off I can talk SK into giveing us our own threed or something.

Yeah I was in the open beta too, but I don't think I'll be playing. I have to have a cause to play MMO's and I'm already half commited to one as it is. That and I don't like MMO's a whole lot.

Well just an idea for now the private server will be free so don't have to worry about paying or nothing.

So far I have gotten my hands on the server software just trying to find a reliable place to get the correct client files and stuff that are needed to be able to play.

So far only place i been able to find the files is thro RapidShare witch stucks badly lol. Once i do get the client files and stuff probley have to setup some kind of torrent or something for it so the users of Kaf can have a little easyer time of getting there hands on whats needed to play.

So need to figure out how to make the client file easy to install for the people that arnt comfterable editng files and stuff. And then how to serve up a file thats a little over 1 gig in size to every one so they can join.

Ok so instead of double posting sense no one has added another comment yet.. Heres an update.

Found a decent place that is hosting the two main Client Files and they have decent speed at lease to me getting avrage of 500k/sec download. How ever the Main Client is broken up into 25 50meg files. And the Other one is broken up into 21 50meg files.

Here are the links to the main two files that are needed. To get people started as i find the other req files that are needed I will post them as well.

You will need both of these to get started. These are the two big main files needed. Took me about 2 min per file to download these maybe little less so your looking at around 1hr 30min for all 46 files if you can get the same speed I was getting.

I suggest using FireFox with the addon DownThemAll! to get them. So you can just Q them all up and walk away or do other stuff.

Ok server is up but untested I can connect fine but I'm on the same network lol. So Who ever can get the two main clint files download and installed and the file I'm about to post installed will get to help me test out the server for other connections sense I cant get Tatter to help me becuse he is being Evil to me lately.

edit2; for the people having trouble downloading both clients; you can play RO by using Sakray (you should be able to find a good rag_setup1213 somewhere with ease, don't forget to patch it!) only in combination with the RagLite files, contact me if you need those, I'll have to look them up.

Rates right now are just normal ones. Tho I might change them just haven't desided to what yet.

The Links i posted where good when I posted them the host was desent fast only down side was they where broken up into so many files..

They are the 1213 Client. If you just download the ones i posted and added the kafRO info from the rar file i posted you should be able to join right away.

Install this first.

UnRar and copy to "c:/program files/Gravity/RO" long as you used defult install path.

Yes you have to use the sakexe.exe file that is in the kafRO.rar file. extract the contents of kafRO.rar to your install dir. (Defult install should be c:/program files/Gravity/RO/ unzip them there or some place else and move them to that folder..

Seams the server was down didn't realize it either power might of went out while i was sleeping. But should be back up and runing now.

May i ask if this is a PK server? and if it is make it a HR PK server as they are way more fun!

Not a PK server don't really know how to make it a PK server at this moment tho it has BG and stuff on it i beleave.

Well if i was do that it would take forever pretty much.. Its a little over 2gigs total for all files.. ruffly and i don't know any sites that allow that big of a file that is free and fast downloading. Tho I do have a decent upload it still take me a good bit to upload such a file..

Are you able to see the kafRO server when you start up the game? If not make sure that the kafRO.rar you extracted is in the right place. If you do see it and you have it in the right place then goto "c:/Program Files/Gravity/RO/Data/" (Asumeing you used defult install path.) and look for a file called "sclientinfo.xml" and open it with notepad should look like this.




And then the line that says <address> to http://chobits.sytes.net or just copy and paste the code below into it and save and try agin.

I've been running RO servers for 3 years, I know what I'm doing

Might as well try to do a fresh install without patching...

edit; dumped your ip in the sclient.xml and now I can get past the account server (yay) but still not to the character server... Still working to find out what's causing it

edit2; firewall isn't blocking a thing, signals seem to get through, I don't know what's the problem anymore. Just wondering, is it eAthena you're running? And I'm the only one with this problem, am I? I blame my inet..

edit3; and just for your info; giving the url equals giving your ip and adding http:// will work fine for websites but won't have any effect on RO clients

yep, unless you have Korean language packs installed in your OS

And that's a really classic sprite error... which means you're missing resources.

first; use Ragnarok.exe to patch up
second; use Sakray.exe to patch up

they are finished when the three buttons at the bottom are all lit up and the text displays ???? ???? ???? - don't run both at the same time.

that should solve that problem... as for me, I can't even connect

Don't do none of the patching if you do patching then the sakexe.exe that i included wont work most likely...

I did no patching on my client all i did was fresh install of both then copyed over the data folder and sakexe.exe to the RO folder and ran sakexe.exe and it started right up for me.

But like i said its on my own network. And so far no one else has gotten to work it seams don't think its my end all the sever windows are up and apear to be running normaly.

I will check tho.. I do see that a new account Jarin has been made.

I'll look into it might have a setting mixed up but don't think so.

I'm still downloading the files. Started yesterday. *Sigh*

I could create an account after I put the IP instead of the URL in the sclient.xml, but I can't get any further.

And I'll ask again, what emulator are you using? eAthena or something else?

Dude, it's in Korean. How the hell am I supposed to know what it's saying?

I'm attempting to use KAFSpyder_M. But when I enter a password, it comes up with some weird Korean message, then returns me to the Login menu.

I'm going to be blunt...

ChosenOne, if you do run on eAthena, would you please zip/rar the conf folder from your server directory and mail it to me? I'll be able to tell whether it's set up properly in a flash.

I had almost started one called SymphonyRO. I had most of it running, but doing a Server is harder then it looks.

I believe I still have my old Patches and Custom things for SRO somewhere.

I think I hosted 3 or 4 RO servers by now, about 20-25 gameservers in total. It really isn't that hard...

Make sure yours looks like that and long as your useing the correct sakexe.exe you should be able to join and make an account with out any problems now. Sense someone has now done so.

Rates I'm still desideing on. As of right now there just normal. The server right now is max lvl 99 tho I know with some changes it can goto 255.

So tell i change it to 255 thinking of doing a rate of x5 or maybe x10 don't know yet.
I will think it over while I'm doing r/l stuff today.

if the max levels are changed I'm out (sorry)... ruins the entire game. Why bother making a build or hunting equipment if you can godmode your stats

And in my opinion 20~25 are nice rates. Both for players who start out - they will have to go to various stages of leveling - and for the players who already know the game, since they will be able to level up quite fast.

As for me, the latter is a good reason since I've seen the leveling already. I've grinded countless characters to 99 and to 9x again, it's the boring part of RO after all: leveling. Yet I am apposed to high rate servers.

For items, let it be about 80% of the experience rates and flag them to be logaritmic, means that high rate items are way less effected by the boost than rare drops. In other words, it prevents a poring from spoiling empty bottles, jellopies and apples on every kill.

I'll be looking forward to the rate changes, spending an 1.5 hour to become 1-1 class isn't much fun...

I also suggest you put up a control panel for account creation (and money transfer and such) but I will leave that completely up to you... Depends on how much time you're willing to put into this

20 - 25 seems a bit high, especially considering you're proposing we keep the level limit at 99. You'll shoot to max level in no time, and then where are you? Partying isn't exactly going to work well, considering there's only about a max of 5 of us interested at the moment, and we all have different schedules.

Considering that, the server is going to need to focus on individual power. 2 - 5 growth is fine to me, we'll see about the 99 limit.

My experience with 20-25 is that it will take a hunter (which would be the best soloable class) without prior equipment or help of others about 30 hours to reach lvl 99. With my current schedule that would be over 6 weeks of playing, not even to mention rebirthing and gathering equipment. Off course, people who have time on their hands and know the game will have a 9x rebirth in 1 week time, but I don't like to believe there are too much people that will play RO for 20 hours a day. Also, the 25 was considering new players trying out different classes.

About the maximum level, honestly, Gravity didn't come up with the stat point distribution system they have now because it just turned out that way. The 1200-and-something statpoints you receive make sure you have to balance your character build well and it actually makes the difference in characters. Giving more skillpoints to acolyte and mage classes simply makes them overkill while other classes don't benefit at all.

Considering the fact that we have to rely on ourselves rather than parties I would say that there's is another reason to keep the rates medium rather than low, but that's just my experience.

I've played 5/5/2, 2/2/1, 7/7/5, 15/15/10, 25/25/15 and high rate, of those options I'd say 15/15/10 and 25/25/15 were the most interesting. The 'problem' of RO is that your actual max level isn't 99 but 198, with 7x rates leveling gets slow after 80, with 15x after 95 and with 25 after rebirth 80.

With that said, I do agree that 25 is over the top, but I would like you to consider 15, particulary because of some new players who will want to explore the classes. I haven't played the game seriously in quite a while so I don't exactly remember the effect of certain rates. The last server was 15/15/7 and some good memories.

Yes, the rates seem to have increased. I'm kind of curious on this myself.

Personally, I'm running Varl (Novice) and Spyder (Thief), but Spyder hasn't been posted in my sig yet. Should be interesting to see how things work out. Might actually be able to give RO a fair shot this time. Last time was...meh....

I can not extract the RAG file, i have all 26 rars, each of the files are 51,200 up till the last one which is 47,023, it says that the file is corrupt, what can i do to fix this?

If it is just your RAG failing (meaning you DO have the SAK) you should be fine with just installing the runtime files mentioned on top of the page, then installing the SAK in the same directory you put the runtime files in. Then extract your kafRO package in that same folder and use sakexe.exe to play.

It's not the part of making the Server and putting it online. That part is at most only 10 Minutes of my Time. It's keeping players on and competing with other Servers.

Where do you think that amount of 20-25 comes from

I do believe KAF will have a somewhat solid player base tho, just lacking in numbers...

I'd say reinstall the thing, and make sure you have a proper RAG_SETUP (or the runtime files) and SAK_SETUP

1; install RAG_SETUP and let it patch OR use the runtime files
2; install SAK_SETUP in that same directory and let it patch
3; extract the KAFRO datapackage in that same directory, let it overwrite sakexe.exe
4; use sakexe.exe to play

And could you give me some details on when you get the error? As soon as your map is loaded or after you've walked around for a bit?

Ok all have a look. kafRO Website still needs little work but you can sign up there manage your chars and stuff etc.

If your already signed up on the RO server just use your RO login info to login on the site as well.

Am I the only one having some Ping issues? It seems the server is acting a bit slow at the moment. Hope it's not just me.

Not just you, it's been *really* laggy since around 17.00 GMT+1, got a ping of about 1500~2500ms.

Got to say that Chosen did a nice job on the CP, now it just has to be filled up

Sorry about the ping guys/girls but it was due to me acuireing anime :-p. I get my stuff while I'm sleeping so might be little laggy at them times.

I try and keep my torrents bandwidth low tho but i had alot to do last night like 41 eps so it eat up my bandwidth.. Normaly only got around 2 runing and it only ties up like 50 to 60 of my 120 upload ablity..

Thanks about the CP but cant take credit for the work it was just one of the ones i found premade pretty much.. have a few others but keep comeing back to the one i listed that I like the most.. For the most part.

Ok all. I have now fixed it so that everyone can have a max of 9 Chars. Only downside is you have to re download the kafRO.rar .

I have updated the kafRO.rar file on the first post it now has the updated sakexe.exe file in it that allows for 9 chars.

And it also has the fixed client.xml file so that no one should have to edit it no more to join the server..

You don't have to copy all the files.. If you have already got in and are able to play etc.. Just copy over the updated sakexe.exe file in the rar file and over right your old one and start playing agin.. All there is to it..

If you already got two downloaded all you have to do is add the kafRO server to your client.xml don't have to download everything you can have more then one server listed.. lol.

And no nothing giveing right now just normal stuff start out with 5k gold.. rates are 5/5/4 and you can play with other KAFer's at some point like to give the ablity of allowing people to make up quests that can be done that they think up them selfs.. Or custom maps etc..

There is alot of open ablity to RO it seams now days.. From Custom Maps,Sprits,NPCs,Quests etc

How To Add Another Server To Your List.

Open the sclientinfo.xml located in your "c:/Program Files/Gravity/RO/Data/" Folder (That is if you used defult install path.) using notepad and you should see something like this.



To add another server to the list so you don't have to have multipule installed of the game just add the new server info to it .. After where it says </connection> hit enter a time or two and add in the new info so that it looks something like this..



When adding the other server info you don't need the hole thing agin you just need the stuff from <connection> thro </connection> and if you got a 3rd or 4th just repeat... When you start up your RO you should all the server listed now and you just select the one you want to play on.

My advise, get the runtime files instead of the RAG_SETUP, I posted the link earlier in this topic and also put it here. You will have to install Sakray properly to play it, and yeah, that's 1 GB download. I do recommend using a torrent if you can.

Note; you can't get the client from the RO site unless you're registered (and paying).

Ya have to go with the links found about in this threed or torrents. Cant just download the one off the main RO website 1 it has to be the Korean version of the game and don't think you can download that any more inless you have a Korean IP so.

torrents, most do pretty well. If you get the runtime files from here you only need the sak_setup, but you won't have any music ingame.

On a ingame note; I accidentally messed up my skill build, (a really, really stupid miss click) and I was wondering if you planned to have something like a reset NPC or not (I'm actually against those) since I might have to start over.

There is a Skill Point reset NPC in Pront at 146,232 but it only does Skill Points not Stat points and you have to be a first job class with job level lower then 40

In that case I'll have to start over... /sob

Ok there is a normal Reset Girl NPC in Pront now near the middle. But it will cost Zeny to use it..

this will allow people to get insane builds, I don't know if it's a good idea. If people want to reset that bad, at least let them pay a million zeny or something in that direction, this is madness xD

Tho in the long run I will probley end up moveing it to another place probley some place you have to hunt to get to that you will have to be a good high lvl to reach as well as probley uping the Price..

Maybe it's an idea to make the price level*50.000 and level*100.000 for rebirth characters for each reset.

the Reset one don't look at what class and stuff you are.. So not really a way of doing that with the current one there.. With out re programing it witch don't know enoph about it to do i can only do basic stuff..

Perhaps we should consider making/attaching a forum to the KAF RO website, to cut down on the cluster we got going on in this thread.

About the rewriting of the reset NPC, I could do that. If you want I could write out some content for the CP as well, it's so empty! xD

@Spyder; nice going on the leveling. If you want to plan out your character a little, try out some tools like gn0me's skillplanner or doddlercon's calculator for statpoint distribution.

Thanks, but I actually have a set list I'm using for distribution of stats. I've already mapped out everything I want. =P

Its keeped low so that there isn't a bunch of people runing around with lvl 99 chars becuse the raters are super high like x25 or what on other servers.. If you have a bunch of lvl 99 chars you will get bored with the game easly and not want to play no more. In my thought.

And on a side note while messing with that earlyer my PSU in my main PC died so now tell I can come up with 130 bucks for a new PSU I wont be around much becuse I have to use my server pc to do anything. :-(

I only play HR Servers. I don't get bored with high leveled characters - I get bored with having to GRIND. Which is all LR is.

I agree with Kon; RO = grinding. And that's exactly why it feels good to have a high level character with good equipment: you've worked for it. If you beat someone up during a WoE or PvP you can say it's because you've worked hard and came up with a good build, not because you were lucky and you used the right card in your armor today just because you felt like it.

And Chosen, I've got a server pc here on which I could host the RO server for starters (I have a fixed bandwidth limit so I can't host much else), but I'd have to set up the internet connection properly first, so please let me know in time if you wish to move it.

I'm back up and runin I lucked out got a 800 watt PSU for like 80 bucks at BestBuy.

Far as the high rate server thing goes.. Been thinking of maybe adding a 2nd server maybe that will run high rate seams it possable to do now days to do it.. Just have to look it over.

Ok setup another server uses same login server so if you already got an account just login as normal you will just now see a 2nd sever..

Let me know how it runs and stuff don't know how well it will sense the pc i got it runing on is only a SingleCore cpu. But since there isn't 100 people playing on it at one time think it should be ok..

Ya after playing for a bit I realized i did the math wrong instead of setting it to 2900 witch = rates of x29 i had it set to 29000 witch is x290 xp rates DOH! so i had to take it down and fix. Sorry.

Have to say... 29x was really nice for a while. Lvl 76 in no time, got myself an emperium and collected my binoculars. Cheers Chosen

Ok all Rates are lowered agin.. Instead of going back to 5/5/4 desided to run normal server at 8/8/7 don't think it will hurt to much to have these little better rates so enjoy. :-)

Well we have 5 Unique diffrent IP accounts made.. 3 of witch are me,Spyder and Jarian, Theres allso Drifter but he hasn't been on agin sense he first tried it going to have to fix that lol.. And then the other 1 don't know who it is but never see them on..

We need more players thats for sure might have to talk to SK see if we can get our own Threed on here and maybe little advertisement on the site to see if we can get some more players.

Think the bigiest thing holding it back right now is the large 2 gig client download that is needed to play.

And I play WoW to :-p Dalaran Server

As I said before you can play just fine with a 1 GB client...

Fair warning I will have torrent runing tonight when I goto bed tell I get up witch I will be starting in a few min after I posted this msg lol.. I will have them on limits but thought id give fair warning about possable lag on the servers..

Ow and by the way, I've set up a guild (First to Fly) so everyone who would like to join is welcome. There's no WoE (and I guess there won't be for quite a while) but at least there's the guild chat.
