it was a light outside one of the buildings of my uni (at night). I'd just finished my final exhibition, had my camera so took some snaps around the place.

...and now for something completely different.
Whipped up a new sig and avatar set.

If I did this properly, the shadow SHOULD appear darker over any colour background. So if people have the dark blue skin for the graphics gallery (if that's still possible?) it should be darker still.

Just playing around with some ideas I got from all over the place. What do we think?

I like it; its simple but effective. Not a big fan of the colours personally but its still good. Not actually all that much I can critique because its so simple...

Great work Dan. thumbsup.gif

That's pretty cool, Dan. =O

Like Sennin said, the colors are interesting, but it's still pretty sweet you can do 3-D so easily.

It's always exciting to see what you come up with next Dan! I think the simplicity of this sig adds to its greatness. Good job!

had the urge to create a new sig. Honestly, this is the first sig I've made, where I've not used art or images of my own creation. I need to draw something to make up for it tongue.gif

Anyway, here's about an hours work. Again, trying new things here and there, but trying to keep it very subtle.

Awesome typography. What font is Okami written in?

That bar on the bottom makes the sig look more organized and it's a good picture of Okami. Looks really good Dan, you should apply it now.

that font is Phoenix Sans. It's the first time I used it, but I quite like it now. The border is supposed to represent (at least one half of) the thick borders commonly seen on scrolls. I added a slight texture, but didn't it too dominant so cut it back a lot.

Also, I just added the little tabs under my userbar. These little guys:

What new techniques were you trying out, may I ask?

Very nice, Dan, you definitely brought out more of the artwork and made it look very good. On top of Okami having awesome artwork, it's also a fun game.

It's an interesting set and a change from what is your "style" of sigs. The background is my favorite part because of the subtle pattern on the left side and also the colors are relaxing and don't take away from the stock.

just toying around with some gradient maps, subtle colours and other gradients which I often tend to overlook. I try to always use layer masks in combination with adjustment layers. It give a whole new level of control.

Ryuji: thanks man smile.gif Yeah, I love the game. Some nice little references to Viewtiful Joe hidden away (another of my favourite games) It's a little more lighthearted than I was expecting, but a great adventure. Only thing I disliked was some of a later digging stages. The controls were awful, and the water technique never worked for me there. Much frustration... Anyway, the art galleries unlocked in the game are fantastic. Lots of inspiration there. I wish more games had features like that.

Kan: thanks biggrin.gif Yeah, I try to make each sig of mine vastly different to the previous. I don't like to think I have one style that I'll confine myself too.

Since it is. xD

Dan I really like your new sig, looks so elegant. The colors work very well, and I like the idea behind your border, quite interesting and awesome.

thought it was time for a new sig. Just going for something a little different. Don't think I'll keep it for very long though. Came up with the idea while working on a new logo for work. Very simple style - because I don't like to follow trends tongue.gif

Wow dan, more great work. It looks amazing; the only thing that bothers me is that the bottom right of the sharpened asterik is blurred.

depth of field wink.gif In photography, if you have so much out of focus, the object you want to focus will hardly ever be completely in focus. At least on small objects anyway.

Example
I was going for a similar thing here, to give it a more natural look.

So yeah, it was intentional. Each shape was on a different layer, and blurred a different amount to simulate depth of field as accurately as I could.
